(April 11, 1939—August 24, 2009)

Major Judith (Judy) Himes was promoted to Glory from the United Hospital of Harrison County in Clarksburg, W.V.

Judith Vadare Coffman was born in Fairmont, W.Va., to Christian parents, Silas Raymond and Hazel Coffman. She accepted the Lord at age 11 while attending a Methodist church.

She met Richard Himes in high school and they were married in 1956. Richard was in the military, stationed at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee, Mass., when they were looking for a church home. A friend invited them to the Salvation Army’s Holyoke, Mass., Corps.

Judith became active in the corps and entered the New York Training College as part of the Evangelist session. After her commissioning in 1969, Judy and her husband served as corps officers in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. They also served in New York as directors of special services at the Ten–Eyck Troughton Memorial Residence. The Himeses retired from active service in 1999 and settled in West Milford, W.Va.

Survivors include her husband, Major Richard Himes of West Milford, W.V.; two sons, Major Richard Michael Himes of Wilmore, Ky., and Major Mark Himes of Sharon, Mass; a daughter, Major Ruth Stoneburner of Plymouth Meetings, Pa.; a sister, Virginia Perriello of Cleveland, Ohio; a brother, John W. Coffman of Shinnston, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Messages of support may be sent to Major Richard Himes, 1035 Walnut St., West Milford, WV 26451, e-mail: RJH3439@aol.com
